چکیده

Advances in information and communication technologies, particularly the emergence of the Internet as a major source of global information have encouraged tertiary educators to develop rich, technology-based learning environments. Moreover, ready access to multimedia at the desktop provides the opportunity to develop engaging and interactive learning resources to enhance traditional learning environments. As a consequence, educators of distance education students are now able to move away from traditional, print-based study packages and develop multimodal course materials. This paper provides a qualitative metaanalysis of the issues associated with academics’ adoption and integration of technology for developing distance education courses, emerging from a range of contemporary studies and presents a framework for the investigation of factors influencing academics’ adoption of technology.

Application of modified balanced iterative reducing and clustering using hierarchies algorithm in parceling of brain performance using fMRI data

Introduction: Clustering of human brain is a very useful tool for diagnosis, treatment, and tracking of brain tumors. There are several methods in this category in order to do this. In this study, modified balanced iterative reducing and clustering using hierarchies (m-BIRCH) was introduced for brain activation clustering. This algorithm has an appropriate speed and good scalability in dealing ...

Recombinant Mal d 1 facilitates sublingual challenge tests of birch pollen-allergic patients with apple allergy

It is still unclear whether allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) with birch pollen improves birch pollen-related food allergy. One reason for this may be the lack of standardized tests to assess clinical reactions to birch pollen-related foods, for example apple. We tested the applicability of recombinant (r) Mal d 1, the Bet v 1-homolog in apple, for oral challenge tests. Increasing concentra...

Morphological differentiation of Betula (birch) pollen in northwest North America and its palaeoecological application

Lake sediments from arcto-boreal regions commonly contain abundant Betula pollen. However, palaeoenvironmental interpretations of Betula pollen are often ambiguous because of the lack of reliable morphological features to distinguish among ecologically distinct Betula species in western North America. We measured the grain diameters and pore depths of pollen from three tree-birch species (B. pa...

Structure of the Major Apple Allergen Mal d 1

More than 70% of birch pollen-allergic patients develop allergic cross-reactions to the major allergen found in apple fruits (Malus domestica), the 17.5 kDa protein Mal d 1. Allergic reactions against this protein result from initial sensitization to the major allergen from birch pollen, Bet v 1. Immunologic cross-reactivity of Bet v 1-specific IgE antibodies with Mal d 1 after apple consumptio...

Immunoblotting in the diagnosis of cross-reactivity in children allergic to birch.

PURPOSE The scientific experiments with new immunological methods (immunoblotting, RAST inhibition) and isolation of recombinant allergens suggest structural similarities in the allergenic components responsible for cross-reactions. Immunochemical and molecular biology studies indicate that epitopes of major allergen (Bet v 1, Mal d 1) contain more IgE binding epitopes than minor allergens (Bet...
